there will never be…

Posted in chet baker, from the heart... on June 13, 2011 by gilrang

nos anos 50, chet baker, até então somente um conhecido pistonista de oklahoma, começou cantar nas suas gravações e logo se viu entre os melhores cantores dos estados unidos. dessa época é a gravação original de there will never be another you, uma canção de harry warren & mack gordon, também gravada por nat king cole, ella fitzgerald,  chris montez e outros. aqui, a interpretação na voz inconfundível de baker.

there will never be another you

there will be many other nights like this,
and i’ll be standing here with someone new,
there will be other songs to sing,
another fall…another spring…
but there will never be another you…

there will be other lips that i may kiss,
but they won’t thrill me
like yours used to do…
yes, i may dream a million dreams,
but how can they come true
if there will never, ever be another you?

(harry warren & mack gordon)

i get along without you very well…

chet baker sings

i get along without you very well,
of course I do…
except when soft rains fall
and drip from leaves, then i recall
the thrill of being sheltered in your arms,
of course, i do,
but i get along without you very well…

i’ve forgotten you just like i should,
of course i have…
except to hear your name,
or someone’s laugh that is the same,
but i’ve forgotten you just like i should…

what a guy!… what a fool am i!…
to think my breaking heart could kid the moon
what’s in store? should i phone once more?
no, it’s best that i stick to my tune…

i get along without you very well,
of course i do…
except, perhaps, in spring,
but i should never think of spring,
for that would surely break my heart in two…

(Hoagy Carmichael)
